On 28 January 2016, Japan Creative Centre (JCC) conducted its first sports related talk for this year’s 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations (SJ50) by three distinctive speakers - President of the Football Association of Singapore Mr Zainudin Nordin, CEO of Albirex Singapore Mr Daisuke Korenaga and General Manager of Albirex Singapore Mr Koh Mui Tee.
Entitled Japanese football in the world of Singaporean football, the speakers spoke about the collaboration, partnership and differences between Japanese and Singaporean Football. His Excellency Ambassador Haruhisa Takeuchi graced the talk and had a talk with the speakers as well. |
Mr Korenaga firstly introduced about Albirex Niigata and its development and achievements in Singapore, including the spreading of techniques and developing football talents such as the establishment of Yuhua Albirex Football Academy (YAFA) to involving in various CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programmes. Following which, Mr Zainudin spoke about the partnership between the Football Association of Singapore and Japan Football Association over the years, especially the technical assistance, sharing and workshop sessions, youth development and contributions from the Japanese.
Lastly, Mr Koh focused on the similarities and differences between local Singapore and foreign football clubs, and seeking of funds and sponsors in Singapore.
A discussion panel was conducted thereafter, where the three speakers answered questions from the audience. The challenges facing the development of S.League - particularly due to the small geographical landscape and the difficulties in seeking sponsors due to limited exposure and publicity were answered during the discussion. The talk had a positive turnout, which attracted football fans, Japanese lovers and various personnel from Singapore’s sports industry.
